The Horse Psychology Summit, Parelli Natural Horsemanship’s annual event, which takes place the first weekend of every March, celebrates the induction of the Parelli Program. The first weekend in March of 1982 was when Pat Parelli held his first horsemanship clinic, kicking it off with the opening line: “Horsemanship can be obtained naturally through communication, understanding and psychology, versus mechanics, fear and intimidation.”

Origins of Horse-Man-Ship Simplified

In the world of traditional horsemanship, Pat Parelli redefined the approach to equine clinics by bringing equine psychology and partnership to the forefront of the training process. What followed in the decades to come was a repeatable framework (i.e. the Parelli Levels Program) for horsemen and horsewomen to shift their perspective from human psychology in all of its linear progression to equine psychology.

Parelli made the seemingly elusive and intangible truths about equine partnership into a movement complete with measurable steps—Levels One, Two, Three and Four—for a clear pathway to success. This paved a new way to be a career horseman, with a holistic measure of success that brought the horse’s well-being to the forefront.

Horse-Man-Ship Simplified in Years Past

True to the origins of Parelli, Horse-Man-Ship Simplified events are centered around bringing the Horse and Man together in a natural partnership. The first annual Horse-Man-Ship Simplified in 2022 brought Parelli Instructors and inspirational speakers from around the world to celebrate, teach, and bring to life the principles of the Parelli Program.

The second annual Horse-Man-Ship Simplified in 2023 highlighted the efficacy of the program by applying the principles to untouched wild horses from the Florida Prairie.

Throughout the event, Pat Parelli coached seven licensed Parelli Instructors through the process of the Seven Games on the ground with each of the horses while introducing halters, saddles, round pens, and even trailers. The crowd witnessed first contact and first rides before culminating in an auction of the wild horses to benefit HOOVES, a charity that helps veterans heal through horsemanship (among other activities).

Ocala: Home of World-Class Competitions & Parelli Natural Horsemanship

Ocala, Florida, USA is known as the Horse Capital of the World for its remarkable communities of various equestrian disciplines from the English and Western world, as well as premier breeders. It is also home to Parelli Natural Horsemanship’s only campus, which makes it a destination for natural horsemanship as well.

This year, it’s only fitting that Horse-Man-Ship Simplified takes place at the Grand Oaks Resort in Wiersdale, Florida, right outside of Ocala, and prime location for equestrian events where there are endless dining options, shopping venues, horse facilities, and overnight accommodations.
